Over the past ten years, incoming contributions to foundations generally stayed in the $45 – $65 billion per year range until 2022, when it jumped to over $90 billion. One factor in 2022 was a $20 billion gift from Bill Gates to his foundation.
Data from fiscal year 2023 is still coming in, but indications are that contributions remained a high level compared to the previous trend.
