Basis Points (bps): A basis point is 1/100th of 1%, 0.01%. Investment fees are usually quoted as a percentage of assets. For example an investment manager may charge a 0.75% fee to manage the money that you have with the firm. The term ‘basis point’ is an easier way to say small numbers by moving the decimal point two places to the right. so 0.75% = 75 basis points, for the simple reason it is easier to say out loud “seventy five basis points” than “zero point seven five percent”.
Fiscal Year: Foundations may select any month-end to be its fiscal year-end. Over 70% are in line with the calendar year with a December 31st year-end.
Most Recent Year: Foundations file their form 990-PFs on a rolling basis based on their fiscal period and whether they were granted extensions, therefor FoundationAdvocate want to provide data as it comes in and not wait until all returns for a a particular fiscal year have been submitted. Therefor we show Most Recent Year as a way to see trends before all filings are in.
